Sterling Skies

by Lost One   May 7, 2019

If this piercing ache's the only cost
For a man who's loved and lost
I think I'd rather the pitfalls
Of the man who's never loved at all

Take back the pain and keep the sorrow
Give back the hope-filled days of 'morrow
Yearning's for the bright eyed youth
Not hardened men who've weathered truth

I no longer see through rose hued eyes
Just the truth of sterling skies

An honest write full of loss and heartbreak but is so sad a thought too. Imagining a life without love is just as unbearable as living with the pain of heartbreak. Sometimes (and I speak from experience) reaching rock bottom where it seems there will never be light or end to pain again is often the catalyst that thrusts us back up to better life experiences and takes us in directions that we could have ever thought possible.
I'm sending you a warm hug and all my hopes that your pain passes and that you find peace and uplifting love again when you are ready. Best wishes Milly x

A really well written poem, Tony; there is such a genuine feeling of loss and yearning throughout this.
Personally, I feel that - unless we open ourselves up to love and, yes, hurt - there's no point living. Easy to say, I know, but if there's a storm, I'm going to run through it and if I get knocked over by the squall, I'm going to get up and keep going. If, at the end of it all, I only have bruises to show for my efforts, well damn it, at least I tried. But what if that squall lessons and you even end up in a sunny meadow? You'll never know unless you keep running, Tony, so that's my humble advice.

    Nominated. Take care

Thanks for the words of encouragement Ben, I've just lost the will to fight. If you lose the war what were the lives spent fighting worth?
