Lies to Ease the Pain

by Lost One   Sep 26, 2019

I lied when I said I loved you
And I'm lying to myself
The stories that I wrote you
All lie dormant on the shelf

You came and went so suddenly
The jolt has left me stunned
I guess that means we're over
Though we never had begun

It's like all our time together
Just slipped right through my hands
Tried in vain to hold you closer
Like so many grains of sand

And the bottles I have buried
My grief; in them all reside
The aches and pains from all the hurt
I vainly tried to hide

So I'll lie that I don't love you
That I never felt that way
Just maybe if I say it enough
The pain will go away

This is achingly relatable. When we lose a love it's a grieving process and that always includes a period of denial. You've expressed the denial brilliantly here. Well done! :-) x
