Sunlight Never Dries The Dew

by Ben Pickard   Nov 27, 2019

I mustn't tether pain to land
With knots that will not loose or fray,
So here I make my final stand
And hope to blow the clouds away.

How many nights I've spent with dreams
That everything was well with me
But when I wake, the devil schemes
And casts me off on stormy seas.

Don't talk of ghosts! I know them well -
They tarry round these deathly halls.
My only friends within this cell
Are demons, spectres, wraiths and ghouls.

How lowly burns the pallid sun -
It seems to wane just like the moon -
So when day comes and night is done,
The light flings out a listless tune.

I dreamed of sand and golden bays
To rest upon and heal my wounds
But clouds and rain replaced the rays
And thus, I found myself marooned.

Know this: I really did my all -
I set my course for pastures new -
But once I ran, and now I crawl
And sunlight never dries the dew.

This poem is absolutely amazing. Your writing style is among my favorites! Your rhyming and way with words flows not only perfectly, but finds artistic ways of expressing exactly what you mean and feel. This is a rare quality, and believe me when I say this... don't waist it. Write more poems, write a book, publish it. because "the gift"... well, you have it.
