Sorry, I'm Not Sorry

You can’t choose your family.
You have to learn to grow together.
Protect each other above all else.
Always be each other’s shelter.

Yet, when that bound breaks,
you question the simplest things.
Who really has your back?
With the storm betrayal brings.

A child never asks to be abused,
by someone whom they adored.
It tears them apart slowly.
That’s when chaos begins to soar.

For some to side with a monster,
it makes one feel so much pain.
You’ve broken the silence to protect others.
With it unanswered questions remain.

An abused child shouldn’t have to hide,
shouldn’t be ashamed of righting a wrong.
Fire shouldn’t be added to the hurt,
when they need help to remain strong.

I know this story all too well,
because it has happened to me.
I refuse to be hurt by my family.
I did what I had to do to break free.

For secrets can slowly kill a person
and I refuse to live in silence and pain.
I may have lost half my family
and the reason why I am not ashamed.
