Drown Her Sorrow

by BEJohnson   Feb 18, 2020

She sits there battered and bruised
her body aching in relentless pain.
Her eyes refuse to cry anymore
as she looks out into the pouring rain.

She watches as the lightning returns
she trembles as she hears the thunder.
Her arms are burning with regret
but still she can't help but wonder.

Her mistakes scar her black heart
this remorse burns at her mind.
These pills kill her agony inside
as she walks on a thin line.

This chain kills her distant sorrow
as a new cut appears over the old.
Her burn marks show her story
the story that can never be told.

Her blackened soul is no longer
she's afraid she's already dead inside.
She's tried so many times before
many times she's wanted to die.

Now her core is hollow and burned
as the ashes slowly start to fade.
Her hope has slipped away slowly
knowing today might be the day.

These voices play their games
as she tries to drown her sorrow.
Her body aches from this pain
not knowing if she'll see tomorrow.
