Frozen Now

by Ben Pickard   Jun 10, 2020

Can I not find a single path
That leads me back to you?
Or is the sky forever black
And never sapphire blue?

Are fields I tread forevermore
Just ploughed of seed and corn?
Why are these boots that have no aim
So frayed and badly worn?

The glimmer on my wedding ring
Is dull and seems to die;
Where once my greetings overflowed,
It's time to say goodbye.

I never wanted this at all -
I never meant to fold -
But truth be told, I've lost my way
And freeze amidst the cold.

The questions enhanced the poem - the pain, the desire to find some connection, some path back to what once sparked your life. The thought-provoking images and reminders of what kept you warm, kept you going, kept you tied to the emotions in life. Yet now, it is frozen. Numb. Devoid of hopes for a future. The admission in the last stanza of "I never wanted this at all", is so honest and like you have tried everything, that you had the best intentions, but some things are still lost despite one's best efforts and faith in growth in a relationship.

    Heartbreaking, Ben.

Oh My God <|3 very touching and sad but expressed beautifully. The word choice and the stage set for the story are very authentic. Makes the whole emotional package relatable !

    It's a flawless poem.

I like the rhythm and the perfect rhymes which took me verse by verse till the end. Reading this reminded me of the movie-Frozen and after reading the poem it shows how a once happy life now stands frozen through time...liked it.
