All Of It Was Ours

by Ben Pickard   Dec 21, 2020

~~~
In fields and vales, we spent our days,
And bathed our wounds in mountain streams;
We used the sun to burn the haze
That dampened hopes and balmy dreams.
Beneath the falls, and on the heights,
We made our love on grass and moss,
And all of nature's lush delights
Replaced the hurt and biting frost.
A butterfly would flap its wings
And touch us with its vivid breeze.
The swallow's swoop could make us sing
And dance around the gentle trees.
And when the sun began to set,
We raised the moon with loving zest;
We understood the night was ours,
So disregarded all the rest.
----
I dream such dreams of distant times -
I'll take those dreams unto my tomb -
And never once will I forget
When Nature held us in her womb.
    I can see why this won, what a beautiful scene this set, I imagined myself in a country film, and this was the ending scene , perhaps a memory of a character after the Main story has been and gone. I could actually envision the scene around and feel everything you described, I suppose it’s everyone’s dream to have moments like this to hold onto and cherish.
    I think this small poem could actually be turned into a movie with a great love story!
    Thank you for a peaceful and uplifting piece! I cannot believe I have to admit that I have not read a poem for years!!! My loss!!!
    The writer brought out much emotion and did it with a very enjoyable flow. I especially liked the third stanza.
    Beautifully penned, Ben! Glad this is nominated.
    My favourite line is:
    We used the sun to burn the haze that dampened hopes and balmy dreams.
    Cheers.
