Great senryu! I read "opening your eyes" as both literally and figuratively. Choosing to open your eyes and face the day, to see what awaits you, and also seeing someone (or the world as a whole) for who they are, even if it's painful. Trying not to live in denial, and to see the truth in the person or situation instead of pretending it's something else. Then, you're able to start to process it. I think doing anything for the first time can be quite intimidating. Even if it's something simple. But diving in, taking that leap of faith, can sometimes be necessary to get us where we need to be. We can only learn and grow from it, and as incredibly scary as the world can be, that first step or blink can be crucial to moving forward.
