Lovely Grief

by Anya   Sep 12, 2021

What is the grief that we have yet to know?

For there will come a day when our mothers will carry us to bed for one last time

And our fathers shoulders can no longer support the years that we gathered

One morning will bring the echoes of your siblings running to your bed side but when you wake you will wake alone

With good morning words to welcome the day replaced by the ringing of clocks and chimes

Soon you will walk on a floor you barely know and the thick carpet of home will be weathered and torn

With thousands of faces both strangers and friends that you’ll never see again

For what is grief but love with no place to return
