The Safest Place

by Beautiful Tragedy   May 14, 2026

I could’ve laid there with you forever-
Listening to the sound of your heart beat through the hoodie you were wearing,
Your fingers were running gently through my hair as we watched the TV.
Nothing else in that moment mattered-
Not the stress of things out of my control,
Or the grief of missing a parent I can’t talk to.
I nuzzled my face into your chest and the tension in my shoulders dissipated because with you-
I’m not carrying any of it alone.
Your arms don’t offer the same faux safety that’s others’ have.
You anchor me to a place where the world is less terrifying;
The walls stopped feeling like a cage as I collected myself and stepped into a world where I wasn’t being destabilized from the inside out.
So as I almost drift off to sleep on your chest for a moment-
I breathe a sigh of contentment as it dawns on me that I could lay like this with you forever;
Listening to the heartbeat of the person who has become the safest place I’ve ever known.
