I Will Not Fix Your Ruins

by Golden AnGel Rhapsodist   Jul 19, 2026

~*°*~
I will not fix your ruins,
nor gather what you break,
I am not here to carry
the weight you never take.
~*°*~
What I allowed before
became what I received,
a silent kind of suffering
I never meant to believe.
~*°*~
Each time I stayed too long
when something felt untrue,
I slowly lost my light
trying to shine for you.
~*°*~
You learned my heart was patient,
that I would always stay,
even when your love
kept slipping far away.
~*°*~
But love is not a burden,
nor something torn apart,
it should not leave you empty
while holding someone’s heart.
~*°*~
I have learned
through silence and ache,
love shouldn’t shatter
the soul it should wake.
~*°*~
So I will choose my distance,
I will reclaim my light,
no more dimming who I am
just to make you right.
~*°*~
And if I must walk
this path on my own,
I’d rather feel whole
than unloved and unknown.
~*°*~
For I would rather stand alone
than beg for what is true,
I will not fix your ruins
I will rebuild me, not you.

Hi! I really enjoyed reading your poetry. Your words create such strong emotions, but I felt they could become even more powerful with visuals.

I’m a freelance artist with 3 years of experience, and I can turn the feelings and imagery in your poems into illustrations so readers can actually see the words come to life. We could even start with one poem or a few stanzas as a small project.

I’d also love to share a few ideas on how visuals could help you reach a wider audience and create another way to benefit from your poetry.

    Hi, Gel.
    I hope you are well.

This poem is a clear, courageous act of self?recognition. Its strength lies in how gently it names harm without ever becoming cruel, and how it traces the speaker’s journey from quiet endurance to self?restoration. The repeated imagery of light, ruins, and distance creates a powerful emotional arc: the speaker begins in a place of dimming themselves for another, and ends in a place of rebuilding, reclaiming, and choosing wholeness.

The most striking insight is how the poem reframes love—not as sacrifice or repair, but as something that should wake the soul, not shatter it. That line marks the turning point: the speaker stops interpreting their suffering as devotion and begins to understand it as misalignment. The final stanza completes the transformation with a firm, dignified resolve: choosing solitude over self?erasure, truth over longing, and self?rebuilding over rescuing someone who will not meet them.

It’s a poem of boundaries, clarity, and renewal—quiet in tone, but profound in its emotional honesty.

      Dear Mr. Darcy,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous reflection.
I'm truly humbled by the care and depth with which you read my piece.

Your words made me feel seen not just as a writer, but as someone who found the courage to transform pain into something meaningful. I especially appreciate how you recognized the poem's journey from quiet endurance to self-restoration.
Knowing that those emotions resonated with you means more than I can express.

Thank you for taking the time to appreciate my work and for sharing such a beautiful interpretation. Encouragement like yours, reminds me why I continue to write.

      With sincere gratitude,
