Oh Angie this was beautiful...I love it...its such a great scene you penned, time reworking itself.

    Here's my full comment:

out in the field on top of a hill
    behind the old plantation
    sits a beautiful magnolia tree
    her roots deeply planted
and must be over 100 years old
    still she blooms real pretty
    every spring and summer

^^ I love how you gave precise location as to where this scene is...and the way you penned this opening stanza...with the statement that even something old can be beautiful, that nature just gets better with age,

I remember when I was a little girl
sitting on the veranda out back
    with my great grandma sipping
    on freshly squeezed lemonade
    when her sweet scent would
float by on a warm soft breeze

^^I love this memory...its totally captivating, I can just picture the two of you...how lovely this is

you can still see the worn ropes
hanging from one of her limbs
where the old wooden swing hung
oh the fun my sister and I had
pushing each other on that swing

^^Okay, Angie...I felt the flow loosen a little here...the last two lines, maybe some punctuation in this stanza would improve that... and that statement in the last two lines... beautiful

    giggling, whispering secrets
as we ate lunch of peanut butter
and jelly sandwiches and juicy grapes
then taking a nap in the comfort of
the cool shade her leaves provided

^^Another memory here that straight away captures me...and the way you explained the tree's branches and the comfort nature gave you then.

    and now... here I sit
    on the back veranda, listening
    to my great grandchildren giggle
as they chase each other around
    that old beautiful magnolia tree

^^I love this ending...the memory is now being made again with your own great grandkids...

I just loved this piece...it was beautiful and I love the title...

First off Ang- I like the change in the title... Magnolia is far more elegant than marigold... whoot! and your welcome sweets!

You are the Queen when it comes to reminiscing on child hood memories.... the nature tones are priceless... I love the addition of PB & J .... love it... such a touching and heartfelt write!! Beautiful!
