One Thousand

by Mortal Utopia   May 18, 2019

Just like the moon and sun
that paint over one another
layer by layer, day by day,
to tell the same stories
in a thousand variations,
there are things I wish I could tell you
a thousand times too.

I wanted to tell you about the colours
you never saw in yourself
or the songs you sang
but never heard.

I wanted to tell you about the times
you were like an ocean that
made itself small, just to listen
to my even smaller worries.
And in the times when your ocean
fell as tears, I wanted to tell you
it really really was never your fault.

But whenever I try to speak,
my words and your tears would always evaporate
into the silent memories of water.

This immediately made me think of your poem, "Lost Words". I found that same tone and gentleness here... like you are trying to remind this person that they are valid, too. That their echoes have meant something and that it's okay to not always make yourself small for others. There's a meekness in this write, almost timid, and that you write this for reassurance to try to give this person the love they may have often said they aren't deserving of.

This seriously touched my heart. Love your voice in this <3
