This poem is really beautiful. The imagery and word choices are awesome.
Then I gave a hummingbird
With finest fairy wings
His gift to me a dragonfly
The ugliest of things
How many times we don't stop to see things as they really are.
This really makes you stop and think.
You haven't seen my gifts my love
Was his sad reply
For all things have a purpose
From weeds to dragonflies
To measure true love's value
With gold to gauge it's worth
You overlook the beauty
Held by everything at birth
I loved these last two stanzas. Because the smallest of things in life sometimes are the best. The beauty from within is where you will find your happiness. What a wonderful lesson to leave for your children.
Oh, how utterly amazing! Such a wonderful lesson for everyone. I love the messages this contains, from not judging people/things from their appearance or first impression, to realizing that everyone and everything has a purpose for its existence. Self-worth is just as important to accept as the worth of others.
The flow was magnificent and the comparisons were simple enough for the young'uns to understand and still deep enough to not bore the adults.
Thanks for this reminder that we must look deeper than the surface!

thank you dear for bringing out the beauty of the world in such a simple, yet profound manner. there cannot be truer words than these and i am sure i will keep coming back to this one every time i fail to see the beauty.
thank you very much for commenting on my work. thanks for your kind words
I think this is not only a really beautiful piece of literature, but you have written it perfectly for your target audience. It's a no nonsense poem that can appeal to everybody at a base level. Just reading it makes you think of childhood as it was and how it should be, really brings the kid in me out.
I love the message behind the writing, beauty is not just skin deep, and don't judge something from first glance.
Everything about this was perfect. Nothing less than perfect. The way you have wrote this, the lesson is plain to see and its so well written. You are truely an amazing writer...i look forward to reading more from you :)
Wow, this was an amazing poem... I hope people can learn of this poem. Poems aren't meant to be shallow, and literal.. This is a great example, it leaves you wondering until the very end where it captures you.
I take off my hat to you, great job, keep up the good work
