Silent Coffee(Free Verse)

by Ashleigh Skye   Jun 6, 2008

I sit motionlessly,
staring into the cafe mocha that sits in front of me.
With its taste that never changes
and its fragrance that is the same for years to come,
and as I sit
staring into the dark liquid
with a scent that is uniquely its own,
I am pulled in,
pulled in by the aroma as it wafts through the air.
I am embraced
by the sudden urge to spill my guts,
to explain to my mocha,
exactly what I see,
and how I feel inside,
deep inside.
The swirling steam
that escapes the confinement of the mug,
reaches a part of me
that has been frozen for a long time,
melting the shards of ice,
that collected around my heart.
And with my hands embraced around the mug,
I sit in silence,
my coffee in hand,
just watching the steam,
float up towards the heavens,
leaving the boundaries of the ceramic mug
and in its silence
I am consoled by the thought,
that one day
maybe I will be as free as the steam.
But for now
I sit full of jealously
of the coffee
that can escape this world at any moment,
that can be washed clean in a second,
and reborn as if nothing happened.
And as my need to share grows stronger,
I realized
that my coffee will always be
Silent.

Best poem by you BY FAR. I'm absolutely in love with it. Favorites, that's for sure.

I have no criticism for this poem. I noticed with the other free versed poem I'd read that it seemed to be your best 'style'. But, this out ranks any best style. It's your best poem (at least from the 10 I've read).

    Kudos, Ashleigh.

For vivid imagery, vivid emotion, amazing and outstanding flow!
