We Are The Night

by Ashleigh Skye   Jun 6, 2008

The single sun and the single moon,
decided one evening to play,
so they each ran about when the stars came out,
and met at the Milky Way.

They danced around the galaxy,
each one shining bright,
banning together, endlessly,
in the galaxy's ongoing fight.

They stars screamed out in agony,
as the intensity of the lights grew,
the planets aligned beside them,
and they knew that they should do.

They had to stop this friendship,
for from it could only come harm,
the destruction of all things holly,
death of the entire sky's charm.

No longer would it hold that mystery,
draw in people far and wide,
for every time the sun came out,
the moon would run and hide.

They would forget anything ever happened,
for their friendship ended today,
and with the other no longer in sight,
the memories just faded away.

Trapped through the limits of their minds,
they fade while the other glows,
abandoning all hope of salvation,
as the rift between them grows.

And this is where we are today,
as the greatest friendship failed,
destroyed by those who interfered,
and for once darkness, not love prevailed.

This is an amazing poem. I really like how easily it can be related to-a very common issue, so well expressed. Your imagery and description of the situation and the details it includes is very well done. It starts off nice as everything does and ends the way most do. Great work 5/5!
