Ode To The Man I Sometimes Call Dad

by Ashleigh Skye   Jun 6, 2008

*Just a note before I start this poem. THIS IS NOT ABOUT MY FATHER! I have the best father in the world he is always there for me and would move heaven and earth if need be I love him to death. I wrote this about what I've seen through friends*

Out of all the deadbeat fathers,
you're truly at the top,
going that extra mile,
never slowing to a stop.

But you do so with a twist,
a uniqueness to your trade,
handing out candy with one hand,
while the other yields a jagged blade.

You routinely create that oasis,
then send in the desert storm,
an incessant routine of yes and no,
but it's the yes that keeps me warm.

You know how to lift me up,
make me smile when you say my name,
then make my world come crashing down,
while still being happy that you came.

My thoughts are then left in a jumble,
as you walk again out that door,
leaving me with the smiles and memories,
that make the pain hurt more.

You leave me with a hope,
the rainbow after the storm,
that my knight will return again,
to comfort me and keep me warm.

So out of all the dead beat fathers,
I present to you first prize,
for always doing something,
to bring tear drops to my eyes.

Maybe one day I will let you go,
but that is still to far to see,
so instead I will keep allowing you,
to win my heart then set it free.

The wording was nice and different. The poem was a nice length for what you were wanting to say. The format is good. 5/5
