Abuse Awareness

by Triumph   Feb 5, 2009

People hide from what they feel,
but they can't hide themselves for long,
biting their lip and gnashing their teeth
to me seems just plain wrong.

When sounds of violence begin,
people close their eyes,
maybe if they just don't stare -
they fill their hearts with lies.

They pretend the screams are happy,
that bruises are rough game,
they don't get that people suffer,
and in the end their all the same.

Abuse is something we all ignore,
because it causes us pain.
We forget to realize that those of need,
for them it's not so tame.

They scream,
and they fight,
and think they have a chance.
To break free from all they've known,
but they don't see that we've all ignored,
all the fighting that they have shown.

And when they finally get away,
they see there was no hope,
the man is there as he always is,
and through your pain, you cope.

He explains to them that it was fun,
an accidental game,
the scratches and the lashes,
to the abused, it always came.

And the cop said, "Sir, I understand.
It happens all the time."
And the man proceeded to beat his child,
with no reason and no rhyme.
