Gathering Seashells.

Gathering Seashells

Gathering seashells from the seashore
First wanting one, then wanting more,

Kind of like love, broken but true
Kind of like hearts, torn anew.

Gathering seashells from beneath the old pier
Watching the sea as the waters rush near,

Kind of like pain, terrifyingly real
Kind of like burning, without being healed.

Gathering seashells along the empty beach
Seeing you walking, just out of my reach,

Wishing that once we'd simply hold hands
Instead of collecting the shells in the sand.

Gathering seashells from the sand and the sea
Wishing that you'd find love within me,

Just like we found that heart-shaped shell
On the beach when we promised not to tell,

Anyone...

Gathering seashells from the seashore
Day after day, from dusk until dawn.
