The Giant Oak

by Anand S Unni   Feb 15, 2013

Hey you who passeth by,
On this shady day of a cold passing autumn,
When my leaves are falling away as you see,
I want you to take a walk along this park that is my home.

You should know I was once a seed, now an Oak,
A giant one too as you see,
Take your time and see my woody heart,
Yes it is where you shall hear the beats of my love.

We were small then I tell you, seeds flowing away,
We flew along with the wind,
Unperturbed and raged on along,
She swayed back and forth then, touching,
Which made me gaze often in awe,
Each time we stopped and were lifted again,
She winked and danced to a merry tone.

I remember her smiles, the sound of her laughs,
I never knew what she would grow up into,
Cause I was an Oak, and a big one too,
But the world, I knew very little of.

Hey you who passeth by,
Now standing here in this lonely park,
And with not many leaves to shed,
I wish I could walk my way like you,
I could see her seeds flying on with the wind,
I could feel her leaves caressing my roots,
I could feel the scent of her flowers upon my leaves,
Yet I do not see her.

She is there my friend who cared to pass by,
I wish for you to take a fallen leaf of mine,
Keep it near her spot of charm,
It shall then decay into the mud,
And she would take it up sometime,
And we could be one,
Till then I would gaze on along,
And wait for a sound of her laugh,
As the winds hurl on along.
