I flicked an ant

by Darren   Aug 6, 2015

It ignored me
carried on with its own monotonous existence
shiny arse
pincers like a stag
a dot of annoyance.

Yes I dropped my morsels
couldn't be bothered to pick them up
but that gave you no right to help yourself

I am sixty million times bigger than you
my ideas could drag my useless backside through my mind
backwards

I have relished in snatching the jaws of hell
from the gates of heaven
deciding that here in the middle is neither.

I could take a shovel and dig your cavernous labyrinth up
and grab your queen by the scabby torso
screaming 'I am in charge of my garden'

This is my kingdom
here in my mind
yet you all trundle through
like trespassing rambling sycophantic Thespians.

Agendas launched at my bloodshot eyeballs
reasons to say no imprinted on the soles of your boots
that kicked me into tomorrow

Where I discovered that if the earth was flat
then atlas would fall over
and break the eastern half

we would all fall off
but into what?
and what is on the underside?

So I flicked that little bugger
and watched as he got up
without fuss and carried on,

Can I not do the same?

    I Flicked an Ant*
Trying to deal with my issues with title capitalization, so not a big deal. However this was a spot one poem. It is easily distinguished, reading through all of the contest nominations, this one in particular had the biggest impact and just got stuck there.

I found the whole combination really creative and unusual in oneway AND another. Absolutely deep and thoughful wording. I really love this piece of art. It's like a meaningful abstract painting, so much feelings and emotions.

Well done for writing this, hope to see it on the front page.

This poem is amazing. :). The ending has a beautiful twist as well. It does well to stand out on its own. 5/5

Contrariwise to all expectation, that ant might come back to bite you in the butt.
    Great work!

True Larry, luckily only red ants bite over here and they are quite rare these days. thanks for reading.

Indeed - and they are so much stronger and better than us in almost every way, relatively! Excellent piece.
