Leather couches, hip hop, and crucifixes.

by Poet on the Piano   Dec 2, 2015

In seconds...

You decide to give yourself up,
shedding your dignity because
you're convinced this is all that will
become of you.

"It will be okay, right?"
And he simply chuckles as
he takes your hand, guides you
to the master bedroom, and
guides your fingers.

Just say "no".
Just say "no"
now.

You wanted to feel, well now
he's brought the pain -
no more numbness.
He warms your shivering heart
in all the worst ways.

How you can lose
so much in so few
seconds.

Just say

(something).

Laughing like it was nothing;
pull up tights, pull up black skirt
receive a hug and walk away
from a house that used to have
a full, unbroken family.

"Stay in touch, okay?"

And you smile, agreeing.
But heading home in raw daylight,
you swerve between lanes,
wanting to take your hands off the wheel
and bury your whole body behind them.

In seconds...

you say "yes"
with your silence,
terrified yet choosing to not let go -
two hands dug into his back
as you dream
your way through it.

And the seconds tag along between
your legs til you don't know

how to stand for who you are.
