Letter to my Muse

by Jack Nightengale   Nov 30, 2016

To my Muse,

I hope this letter finds you well,
there are so many wonderful things I must tell.
Before getting right into things, I'd like you to stand,
Because, the words of this letter might help you to understand.

I've been away far too long and to you it isn't fair,
the stress and pain of being apart was too much to bare.
But, all is well now I assure you,
I hope that you are missing me the way that I do.

You've taught many things over the course of time we've shared,
You've opened my mind, eyes, ears, and heart to a world I will forever care.
The brilliance you've shown throughout the test of time,
of all the wonders in the world, you'd number nine.

You've broadened my field of vision far beyond normal sight,
you've given life in darkness of new light.
Though I have strayed away to a different course,
your teaching have helped me break through barriers by force.

Indeed, my Muse, you were my first love,
and nothing or no one shall ever be above.
Poetry, you've helped to enlighten me,
all I want is the best for you to see.

Though I have chosen to write more into novels,
you've shaped my writing, like an iron for waffles.
No matter how many novels I may produce,
my love for you will forever stay my Muse.

Don't think of this as goodbye, just a bit of parting,
my mind will forever follow the teachings of your writing.
The rhythm and flow in the love you hold,
will tales of legends untold.

The novels call and beckon upon me,
I was writing so that neither of us would be lonely.
Your teach will live on and will never fall to abuse,
I shall return to you, this I promise, my Muse.
