Let Them Go

by schmetterling   Jun 7, 2017

I'm stronger now,
so little things
will not break me
like they once did.
I am living proof
that it does get better
as long as you
work for it.
Nothing comes easily,
so I've learned,
and letting go
can be harder
than letting
someone in.
It only takes
so much time
before they know
who you are,
before they know
your story.
What is longer
is when everything
you built together
comes crashing down,
and now
you're alone.
I was so afraid
of being alone
that I put up
with anything
just to make
someone stay.
I've been abandoned,
but that doesn't mean
it was my fault.
When you spend
your life
catering to others
it's hard to
learn that
you need yourself
more than them.
Don't wait around
for someone
who never comes.
Don't let them
have control over you
because
you deserve a person
whom waits
for the sun
to open your eyes
so that they
can hear your voice.
Let that person in.
Not the one
known for leaving you
stranded
without even a reason
why.
