A Mother

by Sherry Lynn   Jul 11, 2004

It’s a long story,
One I never told,
But before your eyes,
I’ll let it unfold.

She was only eleven,
On that fateful day,
Not a prayer in the world,
Could make her stay.

Her life had been hell,
And things were gonna change,
She was determined now,
Nothing will stay the same.

She fought and she struggled,
For the next six years,
Wondering if she’d make it,
Fighting back all her tears.

At seventeen she gave birth,
Her son now held a piece of her.

She soon changed her ways,
Making her life yet a better place,
Bound and determined,
You could see it in her face.

She soon had more children,
A total of four,
Now her past isn’t
An issue anymore.

Her parents sit back,
And watch with pride,
They don’t understand,
How she’s gained a great life.

She sits there at thirty,
Going back to school,
You see in her eyes,
There’s so much more.

Her children thinks she crazy,
Doing homework til four,
They don’t understand,
Mommy wants to give them more.

Football and Soccer
Are just some of the sports
For this mother and her children,
There is yet many more.

She attends all the races,
Practices and games,
Even martial arts now
Has its place.

Many tried to stop her,
Said it was just to much,
Told her to give up,
That she had done enough.

This mom wouldn’t listen,
She already set her goal,
She knew no matter what,
She could make it on her own.

Her eldest is now thirteen,
And he seems very pleased,
To see that his mommy,
Is no longer week.

Her youngest is only five,
But vibrant as can be,
She is very happy,
Just to sit on mommy’s knee.

This is truly a family,
Even though there’s no dad,
Cause you see this mom,
Gave her children all she ever had.
