To sail a soul

by Zach Cambria   Nov 24, 2005

I stepped from heel to toe; wooden planks writhe beneath my stride
And entered to a tied up soul waiting to be free-
And drove myself to untie the ropes and push off from where we were tied
Alone I cast but I a traveler of the waking sea-

Away from land two souls drifting, awaiting to be unveiled
And when I felt us ready I prepared to open its wings-
I looked behind-our past-and in our wake our slavery trailed
And spread out did our sails held up by wind-and trembling strings-

Unleashed we were- and drifting no more-with peace we glided there
A green abyss unraveled- held captive by the Grey bound sky-
And no sound there was but of the flapping wings that trembled in ominous air
And though our souls were set free at last- the clouds began to cry-

The frothy sea in which we lay cast upon our open heart
No sight of light or comfort, yet in heart to us-all was fine-
It was from the fire within that this indomitable thrashing sea shall part
As I struggle with this creation-and through determination-I but one man and but one creation-our souls shall become intertwined-

And battled did I- fearlessly-this raging demon sent forth from depths unknown
Our hard shells and outer beings unveiled-washed away by the down pouring rain-
And then our unity as one was shown
As all thoughts displaced came to be sane-

And finally in warmth and luster the sea is shownâ??and sunlight glistens on water, clear
What a marvelous sight to see, and hear as the wind whistles past me-
Through an impossible feat we conquered just to see the beauty nowâ??and be left without a fear
Our souls once tied upon the docks, now cast out amamong sthis marvelâ??and finally set free
