Midnight Air

by Matt Carroll   Apr 17, 2006

The snow fell soft on midnight air
Shining in the streetlight's glow
And on a winter's ever so fair
Beauty's sure to show

The streets all glistened, not a sound
To disturb such tranquil peace
And as I strolled the frosted ground
Sweet silence seemed to cease

Light footsteps echoed down the road
A melodic voice sang an angel's tune
I stood in awe as moonlight showed
The girl, and not too soon

She shined under the diamond sky
Like an angel sent from Holy Lands
I came up slowly, asking why
Alone tonight she walks and stands

She simply smiled with sparkling eyes
"Just enjoying the night," she said
I could see passion, she spoke no lies
Our hands were not misled

Our fingers locked as eyes met slow
And we wandered through the frost
Under lanterns wondrous glow

Love gained and heartbreak lost
