TRENTON -- Two McCook men, one who graduated from McCook Senior High just a week ago, died in a one-vehicle rollover accident Sunday morning on Highway 25 three miles south of the Trenton Dam. The Nebraska State Patrol reports that Christopher R. Botsford, 20, and Clayton L. Pierson, 18, died when they were ejected from a northbound Ford Explorer that rolled multiple times after its driver, Jonathan N. Peterson, 19, of Fort Lewis, Washington, lost control and the SUV ran off the highway. Peterson and another passenger, Clayton Pierson's twin brother, Chase, were taken to Community Hospital of McCook. Peterson was then transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where he is listed in critical condition this morning. Chase Pierson is in good condition this morning at the McCook hospital.None of the victims was wearing a seat belt, according to a report filed by troopers Jeff Dunton and Dan Thompson and Sgt. Joel Smith of the State Patrol. Assisting at the scene were officers of the Hitchcock County Sheriff's Department. The investigation into the accident continues. Services for Botsford are pending with Herrmann Funeral Home; Services for Pierson are pending with Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.The Nebraska State Patrol first reported this afternoon that Peterson had died, then retracted that report to say he remained on life support. |
