There is a Light

by Samantha lynn   Jan 7, 2008

There is a light I see
following the sound of your voice
as it echos through
my kaleidoscope of emotions
and reflecting the memory
when standing on the steps to
those elementary days.

Running from nothing
but toward the everlasting hope
that we would be anything and everything
we planned on becoming.

You were the pillar the keystone
the foundation of my world
and I was the little girl to
hold your hand when it was good
and bad.

You never sat alone
beneath a dark sky
and you never managed to push
as I refused to stop pulling back
you never wanted to be alone
and I never left.

I see through a child's eyes
the world that once was but
will never be again
as I silently visit the grave
of a failed heart
and abandoned dream since you're gone.

There's an empty space where you
once sat and held my hand
on the empty steps looking over
the empty fields and evergreen glades.

I watch the sun rise over the Atlantic
East Coast hearts beating beneath
crying lost souls still waiting to hear
you come up the front steps
and say it was all a dream.

You saw the light before
I was ready to say goodbye
but there's a voice inside
my heart and my head that breaks through
at my darkest hours and tells me
you are gone
but you will always be holding my hand.

There is a light
I see before I close my eyes
and in it I see your smile.

I really like this poem! There is so much emotion in your words. And the flow is pretty good.
