I'll Miss Her

by Katie   Sep 26, 2006

She'll be gone forever.
I'll never see her again.
One last memory I remember.
Her laying on the tar.
Soaking in a puddle of blood.
Lifeless, motionless.
Her mangled bike on the side.
She's slipping away now.
Breaths thinning.
Heartbeat slowing.
There was nothing I could do.
I hear the sirens in the background.
They're too late.
She's gone forever.
I can't cry.
Can't move.
Can't even think...
I stand, as motionless as her.
Staring.
This can't be true...
I'll miss her.

* I wrote this poem for a very close childhood friend of mine who was hit by a car while riding her bike outside my house. Later that night, she passed away, leaving family and friends in disbelief. We grew up together, a few houses away from each other. We went to school together, cheered together, played softball, and graduated the 8th grade on June 14th, 2005. Only six days later she was killed. On June 20th, 2005. The worst day of my life. She hadn't even started summer yet. Her favorite time of the year. She is missed greatly, and I'll never forget her. It's been 1 year, 3 months, and 5 days. Seems like yesterday that I was standing next to her on that beautiful morning. Watching her slip away from me. I have never felt this much pain for so long. I've never felt something like this actually ache. I shake every time I remember that day. I would never wish that upon anyone. It is by far the worst thing that I have ever been through in my 15 years of living. I've never missed someone so much. If only I could have one last hug from her... would make things so much easier.

    I know how you feel
I lost a very very close friend in almost the same way.
The void never completely fills but it gets better. I promise.
Think of the good times, don't dwell on the ending.
