    -Who Will Save Your Soul-
I really don't know the song...but the title was interesting.
This is a poem I've written earlier; thought it fit the part.
It's kinda wordy, I have a problem with getting to the point.

    Save Me.

I can hear their silent screams
    pleading for rescue
    away from this dirty Earth,
where they are begging to be saved.

    No one can hear them
    because no one really knows,
    what they have to face
on a day to day basis.

    No one really knows
how bad society has changed --
    only those children,
who are begging to be saved.

    No one really knows
that the kids are in danger,
as they are left to be victims
of the filthiness that is this world.

Everyone thinks their kids are naive
    swinging at the playground,
    playing with new friends
    little do they know,
the playground is not as it seems.

As the new friends they meet,
    introduce "cooler" things
in which they will forget themselves
all in wanting to fit in.

Where their minds will control them
    their hearts overruled,
where their brains will lead them
in the game of wanting to be cool.

    Everything has changed
as you now think your naive child
    has become a monster;
    a criminal.

A child no more, it seems to me you think,
    wondering what snatched their innocence.
This young adolescent continues to drown
    in self control and consciousness.

And you stand there and watch
this monster fall deeper into that hole
    as you continue to think,
    that they'll climb right out;
    without support.

This hole they're digging, that child of yours,
    is merely a grave,
    that I shall remind you
    that you, yourself, helped create.

    And you stood there,
    watching your child transform
from the angelic kid at the playground
to the monster that you helped create
    and destroy.

    And you stood there,
    hearing their silent screams
    pleading for rescue
    away from that agonizing hole,
away from that unstoppable brain control.

    Do you hear them?
    Their terrifying shrieks.
    Their helpless moans.
    "Save me," they're yelling.

Why are you just standing there?
    Who will save our souls?

    ^ Nice write.

    Alrighty, poems claimed.
If you take too long to submit your poem or do not keep me slightly up to date with its status, I may give the title to someone else. Meanwhile, I'll hold all claimed titles safe for 1 week.

    Between The Shadows

    Between the shadows
rest a place where I find
    you always. Here and there
no matter the day, I know you'll
    be everywhere. Darkness is not
always the root of evil, seed of
sin. The place I met love,
    the place where we begin.

    Behind the sun
    Lies the thoughts of you,
my dearest love that feels so true.
    Trickling down the faucet is
the time I spent in this solitary
mind shaft waiting for your return.
My sweet I'm happy you've come back.

    Next to mountain tops
is where I slept in your arms.
    Nearly close to heaven where
I felt no kind of harm.
    I'm blessed through you my
    angel. Your wings of faith
cover me and fuel my great escape.

    Near riverbanks
    stands the first viewing of
the light shinning off your brown hair.
    Perfectly sketched in my memory
erase such a picture, I'd never dare.
Years with you have made me see
    the greatest parts of life
    aren't always a mystery.

    Over the half moon
    stares a pair of eyes
I'd know in the darkest room.
I've been hurt too much and
you're love didn't come too soon.
    You make me feel different
like I could laugh through the hurt.
You're the best thing in the universe
    the one I deserve.

    Opposite green plains
stays the moments I share with you,
the love I feel, the heart that beats,
the you and me. Even with
death around the corner, I'll never let go.
Just remember, love, that we have
    our sacred place hidden
    between the shadows.

    Psychotic Girl

    She's such a mistake.
    a rebel.
    resisting the world.
    refusing to get in line.

    speaking her mind.
spitting insane ideas for the masses to hear.
    she'll ruin everything!
    shut this girl up!

    lock her away,
make her think she's gone mad,
    break her down.
take her spirit and throw it out.

    what a psychotic girl,
    thinking freely,
    standing out.

    Beast Of Burden

    Painted scenery by my blood
    This feeling has never faded
This beast of burden asks you
    Is his heart ever true

    Touched by the stars
    Changed forever by the scars
The soul masked by his sin
    A monster underneath the skin

The curse follows wherever I am
    No longer the innocent lamb
I dream a day where I am like all the others
When this beast of burden is with his brothers

    Now We Are Free.

    Ominous clouds of charcoal
    loomed overhead fragmenting
    faith into shards, as exhausted
    dreams started to suffocate,
    they dwindled.

    Metal chains anchored us
    stagnant to a concrete
    ground of depression,
    spiraling into thoughts
    stained by death's
    pigmentation...

    Brutally battered with torrential
    downpours of nightmares,
the end lingered at our fingertips,
    and fear punctured our souls,
    yet hope resurfaced in time,
    and we broke through
    confining bars of hardship...

    and now we are free.

    Misty Mountain Hop

Over the misty mountain hopped Bilbo
He asked Zep if he would go
Get down in the streets today baby
Cause he hadn't been there lately

People with flowers in their hair said hey
Why the hell don't you stay
    Hang awhile
    This kinda made me smile

But if you go you better open your eyes
    Ingesting drugs won't be wise
So you better get in line
    Drink that cup of wine

Stay for tea and have some fun
    Before hopping into the sun
You know it's all a state of mind
Atop that hill, what will you find

    Decided what I'm gonna do
    I'm gonna come with you
    Where the spirits fly
    I'm gonna get high

    Over the misty mountain!

(So) Close To Insanity ~ Kim

I spoke but no one listened
I cried but no one noticed
But that girl is fading away
    I don't think that she'll be missed

Now I'm so close to insanity
I can feel it creeping up on me
    It's pulsing through my veins
    Slowly burning me, burning
    It's seeping into my mind
    Slowly turning me, turning
Well I'm so close to insanity
It's tearing apart who I used to be

When I yelled and screamed out
No one ever heard my shouts
But I'm not bitter, no I'm not
Because that girl's turned to rot

Now I'm so close to insanity
That I can feel it touching me
    It's pushing away my heart
    Slowly killing me, killing
    It's taking over my mind
    Slowly filling me, filling
Well I'm so close to insanity
I can feel it... it's killing me

    Wicked Games

I am but a subtle winged spirit
    crafted by fatherly hands;
I was made anew in paradise
    before you prowled along,
    like the dominant alpha.
    My mind was set open,
    able to be penetrated, vulnerable.
You took hold of right judgment,
    crushing it with your thoughts.

I used to see the fiery sun
    dance into the morning;
    But then midnight shadows
    crawled into the dawning,
    and scooped away its heart.
    Freedom stood on the edge,
    teasing me with fantasies, intriguing.
I had to creep across cracks,
only to be flung off a cliff.

I am now but a stretched and
    fatigued grey rose;
    For you have played freely
    with my withered heart,
and it is on life support.
I was a naive child, setting your traps,
    digging deeper your underground jail.
    My soul cannot be livened,
I am destined to be a prisoner forever.

    End of the Road

    Life is so simply complicated
Souls, bodies, minds; all mashed into one
    Separate ideals yet related

Grasp at the daylight, reach for the sun
Smile brightly to begin each day
Socialize with friends, speak out for fun

Care for strangers, console their dismay
Thank for laughter, and kindness bestowed
    Appreciate the people who stay

    Remember the gratitude you owed
Knowledge is power, so study well
Pass the test at the end of the road

Cool. Contest closed. I'm going to bed but I'll judge this tomorrow.

  • silvershoes

Alright. This has been another tough contest to judge, but here we are:

.1st. Wicked Games by Pure Bride
.2nd. Now We Are Free by Courageous Dreamer
.3rd. Between the Shadows by Lady Nik

AwingAshes, although your poem has an important point, I felt that the point could be wrapped up in one sentence - If you don't teach your kids right and wrong, you're as much the culprit as anyone else if they turn out badly.

standingUP4our failure, cool dark idea for your poem, but it lacks depth or any intricacy/detail.

the Riddler, although you took your poem in an interesting direction, it lacks depth. The poem is about a burdened beast... the same exact thing could be interpreted from just the 3 word title: Beast of Burden.

Luna Blue, I can tell someone knows how to use a thesaurus ;) You have to find a balance between great words and making sure your poem has meaning and a direction. I must give you props for the excellent vocabulary, but don't let the words be your master! Be master of the words.

Nicko, your poem too closely reflects the actual song by Led Zepp. Although it's a great song, I wanted you to take the title and run with it... not run with the lyrics.

Crimson Regret, you nearly placed 3rd because it seems you put a degree of energy into the poem and it comes out pleasantly song-like. However, the poem also comes off as another mainstream version of teen angst.

Kurt, while your poem is honest and true to the bone, it's surprisingly bland.

    ----

Sorry for the harsh critiques. I only have so much time and I feel it's better to focus on why you didn't win this contest rather than sugar-coating the loss with compliments.
However, good writes all of them and I hope to see more of your poetry in the next contest!

I'll give out awards later tonight or tomorrow.

    Congrats winners.

    Call Me the Breeze

You run with doubt never thinking , never knowing,
You smile with laughter, you smile with tears without shifting,
The beauty that is you, so open I can never feel blue,
Noticing my heart jumps , when I say that its you,
Call me the breeze , i'll make you freeze,

Freeze in the cold, feel in the love that is so sold,
I know you want it, I know that you adore it,
Crushing mindless ideas only for one that is us,
Not caring , not fearing just like a painters brush,
Yeah sweet like honey , exciting you know its not a curse,
Call me the breeze, I will make you squeeze,

Squeeze the endless love , from your adoring lips,
Shifting the gears of pleasure that make you feel sweet,
From my gaze to your heart, from your gaze like a snack,
I eat you up, I fill you up, you rock my boat, and its not a thought,
Call me the breeze , the sweet soothing wind.
