Chores Oh Dreaded Chores

by Lauerel Estep   Nov 17, 2014

I awake to the dread of what waits for me downstairs.
Dishes and laundry piled up, the floor boards covered in dog hairs.
Closing my eyes I wish for cleaning fairies abound,
Why can't I stay in bed all day and let them do the running around?
It would be so nice to just lie here with a cup of hot tea and just read,
As a mother, why are we never asked what we want or need?
The sun is shining bright now, as I peek through my bed sheets
Looking up in disgust, "Oh just great, the windows are dirty and streaked!"
Many tasks are waiting and the little ones are now hollering,
Already downstairs, a mess they're in the midst of wallowing,
Nope, no fairies are blessing me with their gifts or presence today,
Nor a Fairy Godmother to grant a Prince to whisk me away
My hair now placed atop my head, I must face what I severely dread
Dirty dishes and laundry, so much for me to get done
And let's not forget baths for the little ones!
"Oh hell!, Screw it!!", I say, jumping back into bed
I'll just take the day off instead!!

Oh moms have a lot in their heads!

Moms rock m/ they can handle many things yet it wouldn't hurt to lend them a hand.

I like how this poem flows smoothly and the rhymes too. They sound natural. Thank you for sharing this poem that showcases part of what a mom does and how they may feel. Some contemplate the Idea of staying in bed but they make their bed and start their days instead. Others depending on the situation may take the day off lol

    welcome to poems and quotes!
