Fight against "the motions"

by Poet on the Piano   Jun 2, 2014

I know how to fall asleep,

I know how to breathe in deeply,

I know how to occupy my time,

I know how to step away from isolation,

I know how to breathe out...

but sometimes it's necessary

for you to guide me through

these basic steps.

It is a fallacy to say

that only some of us can live -

I want to hear that I am capable

of striving,

striving to live for a greater purpose

where each breath that falters

begins to realize its

worth.

Maryanne, this poem touched my heart when I first read it. It seems in life even the simplest of things we do everyday we do not think about. Like breathing or walking. Life can break us down so much that it becomes more and more difficult. I loved how you went one line at a time here because I think it adds more power to the poem and each line holds it's own soecial meaning to me. As I said at the start of the poem you are talking about the simple things and at the end you need or found someone to walk you through life. It could be a lot of things like love of a person or religon (god?). Anyways. Wonderful write!
