Promise Of A New Dawn

by Ed or Ian Henderson   Mar 6, 2010

Daylight starts to fade
From the front of your mind.
All the cards that you have played
Are like shadows to the blind.
It's fading, gently closing
Around these memories, cherished.
This sunset is imposing
And the mayflies have all perished.

What lies beneath the skin,
Waiting to grow old,
Is a warmth that won't begin
Until you've felt the cold.
When sated, you will wonder
What the fuss was all about.
Arms stretched to rain and thunder,
Now cast aside all doubts.

Take a leap: one of faith.
Into the setting of the sun.
Behind you now, the shadow wraith,
Can see that you have won.
Nightfall joins you at a pace
With promise of a new dawn.
Lapse into an unknown smiling face
That has not the mind to mourn.
