Open your eyes

Look around you,
take a really good look.
Do you have any idea what everyone is going through?
I hate to tell you but this isn't some story book.

Life is hard,
I say that because I know.
Go ahead and count every wrist that is scarred;
Did you know your best friend felt that low?

How about the girl you all pick on?
Did you know she's tried to take her life?
Or that if her mom hadn't walked in she might be gone?
I wonder long had she's been hiding that sharpened knife?

What about the boy with guarded eyes?
the one who keeps to himself, and talks to no one.
Did you know he goes home and cries?
Because no one stops to ask him if he's alright?

What about the pretty girl who always seems to grin?
You know, the one who seems to make happiness real?
Did you know she doesn't know she's really thin?
Or that she throws up after every meal?

How about the girl who's always giving to others;
Can you really say you really know a thing about her?
Do you know how much she suffers,
Or how she begs you to finally see?

I could tell you a whole whack of things,
about people just like these;
but the honest fact, it really stings,
is that no one really ever sees.

Look around you,
take a really good look.

That these people could be sitting next to you?
