For Matthew

For Matthew

Vibrating rock, ricocheted variations,
Off the wall,
Blue room high, party tonight, dance,
And alcohol,
The 21 and over club, can we have a good time?
Live to die,
Care for ourselves, worry for hangovers tomorrow,
At least try,

Why did you break the bonds,
Why did you cross the floor,
Why did you stand in front of him,
Why did you die for a stranger?

Heated voices arose from whispers in the crowd,
So loud,
Above the noise flow streaming, off the walls,
Over cloud,
He crossed the room in a rush of outrage,
So quickly,
You saw in his hand the medium sized blade,
So swiftly,

What did you do, stand in front of him,
What did you do, protect the assaulted one?
What did you do, put yourself under the blade,
What did you do, died for a stranger.

His hand came down and struck into your head,
The blade,
Knifed into your skull, unstopping in a great rage,
Invade
Again, and again, and again, and again,
The stabs,
Bleeding out in your pulse with every beat,
The jabs.

Look what you did, choking for air now,
Look what you did, lay dead on the floor,
Look what you did, heartache for your family,
Look what you did, saved another's life.

The pain you felt as you lie dieing still,
In anguish,
The call for help to come a little sooner,
I wished,
But we were all so out of it, we watched,
Dazed, Lost
While you bled out all over the floor,
At your cost.

Why can't I - do, more like you?
Why can't I - See what it was you saw?
Why can't I - be the way you were that night?
Why can't I - go, follow in your step?
