Those lies born from nostalgia

by Darren   Aug 6, 2015

Too easy to yearn for the simpler times
when everything was colourful
without a hint of blue.

Places evoke memories
those laughs and smiles, plentiful
long hot days and innocence played

Time that scampered in the distance
never trying to catch a glimpse
of a changing frame, did awkwardness exist?

Yearning for your childhood
keeps your mind trapped in reverse
daydreams become your reality

Did you forgot the fear of being different?
Those feelings of isolation
for not having the latest fad.

Did you cast away the memory
of wanting to be big and strong
to do what only adults can do?

Our thoughts are the biggest gossipers
remembering only the juicy parts
dig a little deeper, remember your first broken heart.

Never being able to have, what everybody wanted
rarely the first on the invitation list
not noticed, when not there.

You owe it to your children, to exist amongst today
an omnipresent father with mental battle scars
a testament to younger days.
