They Told Me

by ImTheGirl   Nov 9, 2016

They told me that I couldn't walk around mad
And in my mind I said yea right
Who are you to tell me how the hell to feel
These battles are mine to fight

They told me to be strong
And I was right from the start
but what they didn't say was that the pain would build up
And then slowly tear me apart

They told me that it would take time
Time heals all wounds you know
Don't worry about tomorrow
But time isn't doing anything though

They told me to remember the good times
But what happens when the good times make you cry
What happens when every inch of your body is filled with sadness
And all you want to do is die

They told me that he's in a better place
Cool I said I want to go too
Why continue this life and go through this pain
Why not give it up to be with you

They told me that they would be here for me
To help me win this fight
That no matter what I could depend on them
Funny how no one's around tonight

This is so sad. It seems as though people were just giving you lip service while you are hurting so incredibly bad over the loss of your friend. I love your last stanza and how you noted they were no where around. Well done-

This is moving, sad and well written.

The line 'But what happens when the good times make you cry' is excellent. How true: in these kinds of situations, what else do we have to cling to and yet how can those memories do anything else than upset us further?

'They' say a lot of things, don't they?

    Great write. Take care,

    Ben
