A Fishy Tale

by Paul Hirst   Oct 14, 2017

Cannon be my headstone
Canvas be my shroud
Cannonball and rope my coffin
Shipwrecked under storm tossed cloud

Sinking slowly down to Davey
Shipmates all around
Open mouths and staring eyes
Silence a deafening sound

As the last air bubble escapes my lips
And I wearily close my eyes
Soft hands close around my waist
And I slowly begin to rise

Am I hallucinating
Are my senses about to fail
As I look into beautiful blue eyes
Coral seaweed as a veil

Carried swiftly to distant shore
Gently laid on shale
One last look into those blue eyes
Then she's gone with a flick of her tail

A mermaid...reminds me of that Walt Disney movie...Shark's tale
or something, nonetheless I liked the description and the smooth flowing
    rhymes...very nice!
