Creating the other shoe

by Valiantpenguin   Apr 27, 2018

Colors flow across my skin in the form of makeup,
Hiding the things I do not want to face
Words flow from my fingertips in sentences never spoken

These anxieties have me doubting every breath that I take, wondering which should be my last
Though ears bend at my will from every direction
I do not turn to them

These anxieties wonder what the catch it
When will the other shoe drop

These anxieties look for the other shoe
Create the other shoe out of thread and drop it as though it were there all along
As though it was not created by my own anxieties

So I worry about the things that cannot change
Distract my mind with small tasks
Hoping that I will not create another shoe to drop on myself

I was really intrigued by your title which drew me in. The random layout of the poem really makes the reader feel the anxieties you are facing. Your sentences seem to come out in and long and short breaths as your mind tries to process each thought.

A little typo perhaps in this line...

These anxieties wonder what the catch it...should it be is?

Anxiety, a word that creates fear in the bravest of us. There are many ways of dealing with it, but it's a strong emotion that tends to have the upper hand.

Believing in yourself and congratulating yourself for the small achievements will lead to overcoming the larger fears.

    Keep on keeping on.
