Spirits Among Us.

by Poet on the Piano   Nov 1, 2018

You are sharing a revered space with spirits
who chant their somber and hungry lyrics,
waiting to be comforted usually in vain
for it's fame and self-pride you often obtain.

Lend those who seek peace a compassionate ear
instead of selling their existence as nothing but fear.
For once, stow away cameras and traps meant to lure,
may your intentions be honest so you can assure.

Spirits are more than pawns and stories to be mocked,
yet you still treat them like your personal laughingstock.
You flaunt deception to an audience seeking to prove
spirits are evil imprints one must always remove.

They follow us for reasons other than sabotage
and in our disbelief we write them off as a mirage.
Respect is not food to be harvested only for the living,
it is also for those whose lives have been unforgiving.

If we would but listen there is much wisdom that could be imparted from a goodly spirit.
I think this piece also sends a subtle message not to see harm in things we dont understand but to have faith instead of fear in order to understand better the misaligned.
