The Hardest Lesson I've Ever Had To Learn

by Andi   Oct 13, 2006

She loved him with a passion,
she knew she'd love him till the end,
but how was she to know,
he had a completely different plan.

when on that dreary day he left her,
standing there all alone,
eyes welling up with bitter tears,
and the feeling of being alone.

She started withdrawing herself,
and all her friends they saw,
but they just figured she'd move on,
and simply go back to loving on.

but no one ever saw,
how depressed she really was,
they never saw her with the knife,
or how she slowly sliced her skin.

months and months went on,
and no one even guessed,
because she used her brain,
and cut only her hips.

she cut to vent the anger,
and to slowly stop the pain,
she dreamed of the day,
when she'd accidentally cut to deep.

then one dreadful morning,
they walked in to see her dead,
a puddle of blood beneath her,
and a note that read.

"I'm sorry you have to see this,
I've tried to keep it hidden,
but life simply isn't worth living,
if i can't have the rest of my days with him."

When he read the bitter letter,
he couldn't stop the tears,
he couldn't shake the feeling,
that he knew he loved her dear.

when the funeral approached,
he stood up unannounced,
he knew he had to do this,
for he had a message he needed to tell.

"i know you all blame me,
and i must admit i blame myself,
i wish i could have helped her,
through her hard times myself."

"but theres a lesson that must be learned,
her death must not be forgotten,
though the memory is tough,
we need to understand that her life was really rough."

"we must learn that we should tell,
every feeling we've ever felt,
for if we let the moments pass by,
sadly someone might just die."

"i wish i could have told her,
that letting her go was a mistake,
but i didn't think she'd want me back,
after I'd left her in the rain."

"but now I've learned my lesson,
and i promise this to you,
i will never go a day,
without telling someone "i love you.""

*not true but theres a lesson to be learned from it*

Well I read a couple of your poems and I have to critique because theirs always something to learn, I wish people would give me some pointers... I noticed that you don't rhyme in all of your lines only some. well the way peoples minds work is if they hear it rhymeing they expect to hear it in the next couple of lines and when you don't it's kind of a let down. (true phycology) and some of your lines are longer than the others which throws off your rhythm, but you keep the structure pretty good intact. Don't think I'm knocking you because your talent is rare and something actully worth seeing in life. I love your story telling abilities...but you should try to keep it shorter and still have the same feeling because that's where the real skill comes in. I'm glad I had the privilage to read such a special poem it ment alot to me and I'm sure your abilites touched many hearts...

  • WOW..This poem is amazing..It brought tears to my eyes,,I'm glad it's not true but it does have a lesson behind it to be learned..you should always tell someone how you feel and not keep it to yourself...great job 5/5..
