Bittersweet

by Twisted Heart   Mar 11, 2007

The haunting thoughts of you today have come so bittersweet
Upon the mind they crushed and left me feeling incomplete.

Your words whipped out and slapped me with a lie you chose to tell
Then left me here defeated wrapped up in this empty shell.

My soul was on the side of pain that lost the will to live
And though I know it wasn't me, my heart I can't forgive.

For just the words that wounded all the love I felt inside
Has come with repercussions that I know I cannot hide.

As surely as you found the words to bring me to my knees
You threw them like a dagger knife to tear my dignity.

And when the words were spoken, I was beaten to the floor
You laughed at all my weaknesses, just like you did before.

And then you did the kindest thing, you turned and walked away
And left me there to find the strength to face another day.

Now time has passed and if you look, in me there's life anew
No longer do I show the pain of what you put me through.

Much wiser for the wearing of my heart upon my sleeve
I'm not the same old girl who you left there on her knees.

I've found a strength in living for your actions set me free
Now all that's left are thoughts of you that come so bittersweet.

"And then you did the kindest thing, you turned and walked away
And left me there to find the strength to face another day."

Sometimes its the kindest thing to do to just walk away from someone and leave them be. And sometimes, they don't even realise they are being kind, they think they are causing more pain.
    But anyway, i'm rambling.
Excellent poem as always m'dear. I don't know how you do it, but you always say so much in such few lines..

What a great job you have done putting rhis to verse. So sad but the strength found at the end I love :)
