You Don't Know Me

by Twisted Heart   Apr 11, 2007

You think that you can see behind
The smile that hides the pain
To look into the eyes that hold
The depth of heartache's reign.

To see the face you think you know
That it reflects the truth
But do you ever wonder if
It hides the truth from you.

Some days you think that you can see
A passage to my soul
When you look into my eyes
The truth to you bestowed.

And so you live in ignorance
No claim to heartaches pain
You laugh and joke about my soul
And hurt me once again.

But you don't know the words you say
Can split my heart in two
And words that cut the soul of me
Are words that come from you.

No tears will find their way upon
The cheek that you will see
The face will never show the soul
That lives inside of me.

For it will give you comfort then
To wield your power there
Within the hopes and faith you'd see
Wrenched in my deep despair.

So I must hold you at arm's length
Not letting you know me
It will be my little secret
Wrapped up in your fantasy.

I'm sure many can relate to this poem. I feel like I'm living that now, trying to maintain a facade.

Here again you have done it. This is such a heartbreaking write about the inner person that no-one really sees. Grin and Bear it.

To see the face you think you know
    That it reflects the truth
But do you ever wonder if
It hides the truth from you.

This stanza really hit home. I suppose we can all relate in some sense, but this was an amazing summary of the message. As always you have done an excellent job.

How many hide behind a mask. Excellent write. Makes you stop and wonder.

You think that you can see behind
The smile that hides the pain
To look into the eyes that hold
    The depth of heartache's reign.

    This stanza really touced me.
    Take care your friend Cindy
