Very powerful and heartfelt Gen. The poem itself has a nice flow and rhyme scheme...but such a powerful message about mental illness. Fluttering his wings
Against hard metal bars
Trying to break free
From bruises and scars

What a heart breaking stanza. The need to fly free.

Pushing harder for life
Longing for fresh air
Wings broken and tattered
Never to fly out of there

This brings tears to my eyes. What a sad picture this is.

No nectar of hope
To suck, to keep strong
Took a final breath
Struggled for too long

The feelings are so strong in the words you chose. The imagery is great.
