I liked that you said hope & not faith = ). otherwise this was a very nice poem, well written and fluent. the reader can see you wrote it from the heart. 5/5

    Iris,

    You can do anything
as something lies in your heart,
in the air, in life itself,
    This something is special
    as it is very precious
    ^^
I admire the suspense that you have created. Too often I read poems that jump straight in with the meaning. You have used a title that could mean anything, a gift! Well, that could be literally anything, from a can of beans to an aeroplane (imagine) You give the reader clues to what this gift maybe, making it clear that it is not superficial, rather a much deeper gift. A lovely mysterious, yet intriguing first stanza.

It is a gift and has been passed down,
    through every generation to you,
    and anyone can possess it
    ^^
Again the mystery hangs and so this poems interest and the allure of the gifts true identity. Hints/ clues continue, just to spark more interest in this piece.

    Your gift is of hope,
    and to win any battle
you need to pass on your gift
    that lies inside you
    ^^
Yes, hope of course!! Without hope what do we have? Well, no hope, just a life full of darkness and no light.
    Anything is possible
    as long as hope exists,
Keep your gift to pass onto others,
or it will flicker out easily

Here is a chance to change everything,
For as long as you still have hope,
anything is possible. Your metaphor of life as a battle is a good one, an excellent description which creates fantastic imagery. Life is a struggle for everyone, but with hope a person can summon the strength to keep their momentum moving forward towards their goals. This hope can be passed on by verbal encouragement or better still by example. There is no better way to inspire but through example. If the gift of hope 'flickers' out then so does the inspiration and the self belief that can be passed onto others. Keep hope alive!!

Well done Iris, thi is such a great inspirational write, one which I feel you could not have written without having walked through your own personal battle field. You have obviously experienced first hand the power of hope and the difference it can mean on life's battle field.
