Mother's Day

I know that I'm not perfect
Lord knows, I've made mistakes
But you've always been there for me
Through every heartache

Never made me feel down
Not about who I am
Supported and loved me
No matter how often I was bad

Yes, you raised your voice
But only when I deserved it
When the going got the roughest
You were my strongest shield

You showed me how to love
When the rest of the world was cruel
Always encouraged my gifts
When few others would

I can't count the number of times
I ran to you in tears
You consoled me with your wisdom
Helped me face the world again

You've always been there for me
You are my first best friend
I know I can count on you
When closeness is hard to find

And now I'm here for you, too
Sometimes it feels so strange
All grown up and yet
I still see my Mommy there
