Ok I'm correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I interpret this poem is that, you were suppose to meet your lover, when he was at a state of lost and confusion, but some along the way to meet you, something happened to him? Well i think you need to elaborate more and I think if you want to emphasize on the Sunday midnight shoes, you need to explain the readers, how that shoe is inter-related to the whole story.

    Also do take note,

    1st stanza

    The he only knew
^^^ Maybe you would like to rephrase this sentence to "The only way he knew"

    3rd stanza

From the monsters he can hear
^^^ This sounds like a force rhyme, maybe you can rephrase it to "From the monsters that he hear"

    4th stanza

    To there for him always
^^^ I think you meant "To be there for him always"

Well overall i still enjoyed reading it. Keep writing yea:)
