Change can come in many forms and you showed both sides of that here. In the first part, it seems like the setting is day. It was a great set up. With simple imagery and a great message. This person seems to be homeless but stubborn or I guess prideful inside and out. Not wanting help, even though by the worlds standards they do. It really does take a lot to stay strong. The second part of the poem I enjoyed a lot. Because a person can change a lot from day to night or when there are no people around. Obviously this person is strong with their religion and the only one they want help from is God. What befuddled me at first was the last lines but now I understand. This person seems to want to stay strong heart and soul and change their life for the better. That's what I think at least. Great and unique poem Hannah. Strong message of hope!

Oh I adore this poem Hannah. I love the wording of having a change that doesn't cost something. I also loved your metaphor of a stray dog, just begging for that attention, and you show that she will not reduce herself to this. This person will not give other people the satisfaction of seeing how desperate she is.

I think the change she is looking for is more something to change her inwards, like love, or happiness, or a family. Something that will give her everything she perhaps has never had before.

I also think it can relate to a change in the world around her, just praying that kindness will wash over the world and make things a lot calmer for people who are experiencing drastic things.

    Loving your title choice!!

    She didn't bother
    with clutching a sign
    that pleaded for mercy
    or stated religion
    would cure hunger,
    doesn't have an appetite
    for scraps of pity
    thrown her way;
    she wasn't a mutt
    begging for attention.

Love this first stanza. It describes a homeless person yet this person has dignity and pride even stating that she woudln't beg anyone for their pocket change. Really loved the details given to this, makes me remember that many people that are homeless do beg for pocket change but they are poor. I have always helped the poor whenever I have had money giving them money so that they can survive and when I don't see them I give to charity via an H-E-B and just donate like $3 because that pocket change won't impact my life but it can to the people that do.

    Late at night,
    after she raided
    the cans along the street,
    when the moon is her
    only companion,
    she prays for the
    kind of change
    that doesn't cost
    a penny.

I love how you ended the poem very beautiful! This homless woman has a lot of pride but she will work till she can't collecting cans left behind and not ask for pity as stated in the first stanza. This stanza makes me think of a song that just popped up in my head called "boulevard of broken dreams" by green day it's a great song too. Anyways truly beautiful poem Hannah 5/5
