I keep finding sunlight in places I never thought to look-
Even the smallest things catch it when I move my hand.
The windows are down despite the cool October air-
Dogs in the backseat acting obnoxious and I can smell your coffee,
Pumpkin pie spice mixed with your cologne almost makes my head swirl;
Pull the car over so I can rip that black jacket off of you.
“Yes, ma’am.”
But we take the dogs for a walk instead,
Leaves crunch under boots and our hands intertwine-
I keep staring at mine because the diamond is worth more than my entire Taylor Swift collection,
I’m well aware of the money I’m wearing.
What we have is worth more than both combined.
And I swore I’d never do this again-
I look like a clown now because I told you that right from the start,
Marriage trapped me with an abusive man who claims to be the one and only still.
He must not be having much luck on Tinder.
“Then you’re my clown.”- you’d said,
And I laughed despite myself.
I guess I just needed the right kind of love to change my mind.
I keep finding a hint of sparkle in places I never thought to look-
Even the smallest things catch it when I move my hand.
Funny how the last one felt like a shackle and this one feels like sunlight.
